A framework based on human psychology and intrinsic motivation to design truly engaging experiences.

> I am going to talk to you about a project organization technique that I find quite surprising in its conceptualization...

This technique is called the Octalysis Framework, developed by Yu-kai Chou, an experience designer, consultant, and author specializing in gamification. Octalysis is based on 8 "Core Drives" that influence our behavior.

The goal is to analyze an experience (product, service, personal project...) to identify which drives are being leveraged, where it is weak, and how to optimize it to better motivate users (or yourself).

🎮 Make your life more enjoyable... while achieving your goals

Life doesn't have to be an exhausting race toward a distant goal. What if we saw it as a well-designed game, where every step provides pleasure, meaning, and progress? That is the idea behind the Octalysis framework, developed by gamification expert Yu-kai Chou.

Here are its 8 motivational levers, applied to real life 👇

1. 🌀 Epic Meaning & CallingFind a deep reason behind your actions. When what you do has meaning, motivation becomes natural. It's no longer a task; it's a mission.

2. 🧩 AccomplishmentTrack your progress like in a game: levels, milestones, progress bars. Every small success is a visible victory. Celebrate your progress, even the smallest ones.

3. 🎨 Empowerment of Creativity & FeedbackChange your approach, test, explore. Variety maintains motivation. Don't be afraid to try new methods—there isn't just one path to move forward.

4. 🗝️ Ownership & PossessionWhen you feel ownership of something, you naturally want to improve it. Like a player leveling up their character, take care of your own evolution. Every skill, every project, is your character leveling up.

5. 🫱 Social Influence & RelatednessThe people around you influence your energy and ambition. Find a community that inspires you, or allies who share your values. We move forward better together.

6. ⏳ Scarcity & ImpatienceThe longer you wait, the more you desire. Accept the slowness of progress: it reinforces the value of the result. Patience is a rare but powerful skill.

7. ❓ Unpredictability & CuriosityMystery fuels motivation. Leave some room for the unexpected, for the unknown. That is what makes the adventure exciting.

8. ⚔️ Loss & AvoidancePeople are often more motivated by not losing than by winning. Transform this energy: protect your progress, your values, your goals. You will defend them with more conviction.

🎯 In summaryAs a video game fan, when I was younger, I liked to say "Life is a game," but I was quickly corrected, told that one does not play with life. So I started saying "Life is a game, but you don't play with life... you play from life!"

Playing your life is not escaping reality; it is making it come alive. When your goals become a well-designed game, you progress without burning out. What if the "game design" of your life started today?
